QUATEST 3 and JBMIA Successfully Co-Host EMC Technical Workshop 2025
2025/06/25
With the approval of the Commission for Standards, Metrology and Quality of Vietnam (STAMEQ), on June 3rd-4th, 2025 at Bien Hoa Testing Area, The Quality Assurance and Testing Center (QUATEST 3) and Japan Business Machine and Information System Industries Association (JBMIA) jointly organized the EMC Technical Workshop 2025. ;

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Tran Quoc Dung, QUATEST 3 Director, emphasized that the training is a part of a capacity-building project aimed to enhance the competencies of trainers in areas of safety compliance, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and energy efficiency assessment for multimedia equipment, which was sponsored by Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF). The training brought together 17 participants with 5 JBMIA members, 12 engineers and testers from ASEAN countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam (including 4 regional QUATEST centers (1,2,3 and 4) under STAMEQ.

Mr. Tran Quoc Dung – QUATEST 3 Director welcomed JBMIA delegates and outlined the workshop’s objectives.

JBMIA, is an association comprising 20 regular members (FUJIFILM, Canon, Ricoh, Konica Minolta, Sharp, Toshiba Tec, etc) and 20 associate & supporting members. Following the endorsement by ASEAN member states in July 2024 (the ASEAN Consultative Committee for Standards and Quality (ACCSQ), Joint Sectoral Committee on Electrical and Electronic Equipment (JSCEEE), ASEAN-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership (AJCEP-JC), AJCEP Sub-Committee on Economic (AJCEPSCEC) as the sponsoring ASEAN body), the following programs will be implemented using JAIF to support ASEAN’s efforts to pursue integration towards:
- Supporting the implementation of the ASEAN Master Plan
- Promoting cooperation between ASEAN and Japan
- Supporting the activities of regional/sub-regional organizations.

Mr. Masayuki Hirata – Chair of Project from JBMIA also addressed the event, introducing an internship program related to the electrical field for participants of the training course.

The main objective of the training course was to share technical knowledge and hands-on experience, thereby strengthening the capabilities of regional testing laboratories. This initiative is expected to foster deeper ASEAN–Japan technical cooperation and further support regional integration processes.

The training agenda focused on key areas such as enhancing regional collaboration, harmonization of technical standards among ASEAN countries, and updates on emerging requirements for wireless power transfer, probability distribution of emission amplitudes above 1 GHz, and DC network ports. Other core topics included immunity testing strategies (such as notch filters and frame error rate measurement equipment), EMC noise measurement standards (covering equipment, test methods, lab validation, and risk alerts), and concepts of measurement uncertainty with practical illustrations in RF radiation testing (1–6 GHz). A notable presentation was delivered by Mr. Trần Viết Nam from QUATEST 3, covering Radiated Immunity, Electrostatic Discharge System, Electrical Fast Transient/Burst/Surge/Power Fail/Power-frequency Magnetic Field, Conducted Immunity.

In addition to the technical discussions, representatives of the countries participating in the training course also visited the EMC Laboratory of QUATEST 3.

Over the two-day course, experts and representatives from participating countries engaged in dynamic discussions, exchanged practical insights, and proposed valuable technical solutions concerning EMC and safety engineering.
